renovation of a single-family home in Bornem


An existing villa from the 1980s is being revitalized. The roof volume is being replaced by a full floor with a sleek folded concrete roof shell, visible both inside and outside. All new additions to the original building volume are executed in stamped concrete, while the other parts remain in traditional masonry, reminiscent of the original house. Maximum interaction and openness with the garden are central to the design. To compensate for the home's deep positioning on the plot, the extension is being brought forward towards the street. However, it is buffered by an inner courtyard enclosed by a solid wall, preventing any views inside. Privacy is ensured, except for a large opening in the garden wall, extending through the house into the backyard. A subtle point, a viewpoint, a glimpse of life…
