BASIL
KBPP

Situated within the industrial zone of Bruges. This office, located on a corner plot, connecting with the existing warehouses and workshops, seeks a dialogue with the surroundings. A technological yet subtle appearance was desirable, an identity for the site and the company, a clear presence in Bruges was a necessity.

After designing a master plan for the entire site, this plot was specifically purchased to optimize the best relationship with the existing warehouses and building parts, as well as their daily operations. The positioning of the new office section reorganizes and creates clear and logical pathways for the daily operations of this company. It serves as a bridge and a dialogue between workers and office staff.

This contemporary office building for an internationally oriented technological company, specialized in ‘bag-in-box’ production lines, was developed as a high-quality, yet exceptionally flexible and sustainable construction volume, designed to maximize natural light and interaction with its surroundings. The stepped facade construction provides a solution for the south-facing street facade, creating a natural canopy effect. The connection of the new office volume with the existing warehouses and workshop spaces is enhanced by carving out a spacious rooftop terrace adjoining the cafeteria, 'plaza' annex. A generous central void eliminates the enclosed cubicles of the previous workstations (different location on site) and visually connects the various departments, as well as visitors, in dialogue.
